Dynamic drama Ayeye is finally back with a new season – and a new format

Eight years after the acclaimed and much-loved first season, the drama Ayeye is back for a new season titled Ayeye: Stripped, premiering on 5 August on Mzansi Magic – with some exciting changes.

The series – which was originally on 1Magic – initially followed three male best friends navigating messy love lives, testy friendships and soaring careers. With this new season, it will now tell the story of a rich stay-at-home mom who becomes an adult content creator in order to maintain her lifestyle after her baby daddy dies and his family takes everything.

Multitalented actor and singer Rosemary Zimu stars as Zoleka, a 30-year-old left on the verge of destitution. This forces her to find other ways to keep her lavish life and to keep her son off the street. Will her new vocation make life easier, or will things only get more difficult?

Produced by the award-winning Seriti Films (Gomora, The HerdThe Imposter 2), the 13-part drama series is the latest in MultiChoice’s series to be adapted into an anthology show – where each new season of a show features different faces and new stories within a similar universe.

“As a channel, we’re adaptable and ahead of the curve, which is why we’re embracing the anthology format for some of our shows. The first season of Ayeye gave viewers plenty to talk about, and this new season is just as topical,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

“It’s important that we keep up with what’s happening in the world around us and reflect that on screen. It’s also exciting for our DStv Compact subscribers to be among the first to get this show on their screens,” she concludes.

With the first season originally set against the backdrop of the hip and creative Maboneng Precinct of Johannesburg, Ayeye: Stripped takes us into the world of the 1% (and those pretending to be the 1%): it’s set in Johannesburg’s swanky Bryanston.

Ayeye: Stripped also stars an impressive cast of on-the-rise as well as new faces: radio personality Zama Ngcobo; Big Brother Mzansi season 3’s Luthando ‘BU’ Mthembu; soapie actor Kealeboga Masango; Moya Maweni; Abomama’s Pabee Moganedi; social media star Tebogo Thobejane; and Isibaya’s Charles Phasha.

Forced to take ownership of her life and to adapt or die, will Zoleka make it? After all, there’s only one way to go after hitting rock bottom… right? Tune in to Ayeye: Stripped on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) starting Friday 5 August at 20h00. It’s going to be a banger!
